How Taralets works, and what it does with what you put in it.

What is Taralets for?
Organising a group trip, and keeping it afterwards. One place for the itinerary, the bookings, who owes what, the paperwork and the photos — so it stops living across six group chats.
How do I get started?
Two ways in. If someone has invited you, open their invitation link — it sets up your account and puts you in the trip in one go, so start there rather than here. If nobody has invited you, create an account yourself and start a trip of your own. Either way you are asked to accept the terms of use and privacy policy first.
Do I need to agree to anything when I join?
Yes. Setting up a Taralets account asks you to read and accept the terms of use and the privacy policy. You have to accept both before the account is created — declining simply means no account is made. Opening an invitation link on its own is not acceptance.
How do I invite someone?
On the trip’s Settings page, choose what they will be able to do, then either give their email address — Taralets sends them the invitation — or copy the link and send it yourself. You can do both. Each invitation is for one person and can be used once, and you choose how long it stays valid.
What happens after I invite someone?
If you gave an email address, the invitation can only be accepted by that address, and somebody without a Taralets account sets a password and goes straight into the trip. If you only copied a link, Taralets has no idea who it is for, so whoever opens it gives their own email address and Taralets sends them a separate link to finish setting up the account. Invitations you sent by email show whether they arrived or bounced, and you can correct the address and send again.
How many people can be on a trip?
Fifteen, counting the organizer. Invitations you have sent that nobody has accepted yet hold a place too, so whoever is organising sees how many are left on the People page rather than finding out by having an invitation refused.
How big can my files be?
Ten megabytes per file. Documents can be PDFs, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP or plain text, and receipts are photos — up to six per expense.

Photos you add to Memories are shrunk in your browser before they upload, down to 2000 pixels on the longest edge, which is still sharper than any screen shows them. That means you can pick any photo off your camera roll without thinking about it. It also means the full-resolution original is not kept, so Taralets should not be the only place a photo lives.
Can I download everything when the trip is over?
Not in one go — there is no export button yet. Your trip stays where it is for as long as you want it, and you can open or download any document or photo individually at any time. A proper export is something we would like to build; it is not built.
Can the organizer see my documents?
No. A document marked “Only me” can be opened by you alone — the organizer included. There is no override for any role. You can share one with the whole trip or with named people, and withdraw that whenever you like.
Can Taralets fill in a form from my booking confirmation?
Yes, and it only happens when you ask. Attach a confirmation, a receipt or an itinerary and press the button beside it — Read it, Fill the booking from this file, Fill this in from the receipt — and Taralets reads what is printed on it into the boxes in front of you. The confirmation number, the dates, the hotel’s address and phone number, or the amount on a receipt.
What happens to a file Taralets reads?
It is sent to Anthropic, who do the reading, and nowhere else. Under their commercial terms it is not used to train anything and is deleted within thirty days. Nothing is sent unless you press the button, nothing is scanned when you upload, and only the one document you picked goes. Every read is written down — who asked, which file, when — and everyone on the trip can see that list. There is a limit of twenty documents per trip in any thirty days. If you would rather nothing left Taralets, do not press the button: every form it fills can be filled by hand.
Does what it reads get saved straight away?
No. It fills in the boxes and stops. You can change or clear anything before you save, and a whole imported itinerary arrives as a list with a tick beside each entry you can remove. Worth actually looking: it reads what is printed, and printed things are sometimes wrong. It will leave a field empty rather than guess — a check-in time that is not on the page comes back blank, not invented.
What about my memories and photos?
The same rule. Private unless you choose otherwise, and only you can edit or delete your own. Photos are stored privately and are never given a public address.
Who can see my profile photo?
People you share a trip with can see your profile photo. People outside your trips cannot. Without one, your initials are shown instead.
Can I show the plan to someone who isn’t on the trip?
Yes — on the trip’s Itinerary page, organizers can create a share link. It opens a read-only page that anybody holding the link can read without an account, so treat it like any link you post in a group chat. Only the plan travels. Who is on the trip, every booking and confirmation number, every peso, your notes on an item, anything limited to some of the group, anything cancelled, and the trip’s own name are all left behind. So are the real dates: the shared page shows “Day 1, Day 2” and the local time of day, never the dates you are away. Places, addresses and map pins do go out, because a plan whose places cannot be found is not much use — so look at the page before you send it, and anything you would rather keep back can be marked as visible to only some of the group, which keeps it out.
What if I change my mind about a share link?
Stop sharing, on the same page, and the link stops working for everyone holding it — including anyone it was forwarded to. It cannot be switched back on; sharing again creates a different link. We also ask search engines not to list shared pages, though that is a request they honour rather than something we can enforce, and it does nothing about a link somebody passes on. Anything already copied stays copied — see below.
Can I use a plan someone shared with me?
Yes. A shared page has a button to copy the plan into a brand new trip of your own, on your own dates — the days keep their spacing, so a plan that ran Friday to Wednesday still does. It is a copy: changing yours does nothing to theirs, and they are not told. The same works on your own trips, under “Do it again next time”, for somewhere you go every year. Your own copy keeps your notes; bookings never come across, since last year’s confirmation number opens nothing.
What does it cost?
Planning is free, for as many trips as you like — the itinerary, the bookings and the checklist, on your own. You pay to open a trip up to other people. A Trip Pass is one payment that unlocks one trip permanently, for everyone you invite to it — they buy nothing. An Organizer Pass is one payment that lets you unlock the trips you own for a year, new ones included, and those trips stay unlocked afterwards. Neither is a subscription and neither renews itself. The current prices are on the front page, and passes are sold through Gumroad, who take the payment and issue your receipt.
What happens to my free trip if I never buy a pass?
Nothing. It stays where it is, with everything you planned in it, and you can keep working on it for as long as you like. The parts that involve other people — travellers, the travel fund, documents, photos and announcements — stay closed until the trip is unlocked, and each of those tabs explains what it does so you can see what you would be getting.
Can I start my own trip?
Yes. Every account can start trips, however it was created — being invited to somebody else’s trip takes nothing away. Starting one is a separate thing from your role in a trip you were invited to: a co-organizer has full co-organizer powers there either way. Taralets can withdraw the ability to start new trips from an account that misuses it, and if that happens the button is simply not there.
What do the roles mean?
Owner runs the trip. There is exactly one, and the role cannot be handed over in the app. Co-organizer can manage the itinerary, people and finances. Traveller takes part — adding expenses, answering requests, keeping memories. Viewer can read along without changing anything.
How does the money side work?
Record what was spent and who it was for, and Taralets works out the balances and the fewest payments that settle them. Amounts keep the currency they were spent in — nothing is converted behind your back. A shared travel fund can be tracked alongside, for money the group pooled up front, and an expense can say which booking it paid for so a reservation and its cost are one thing.
Can I correct or remove an expense?
Editing corrects the record. Removing takes it out of the active picture but keeps it, along with the reason you gave — the group’s financial history is never quietly rewritten.
Does it work without a signal?
Partly, if you have installed it. The trip itinerary and its announcements stay readable once you have opened them, so today’s plan is still there in a tunnel or on a plane. Documents and memories aren’t available offline — Taralets doesn’t cache them.

Reading is the part that works. Adding an expense, uploading a document or posting an announcement all need a connection, and nothing you type offline is held and sent later — so if it saved, it saved. Signing out clears what was kept.
How do I install Taralets on my phone or computer?
It takes about ten seconds, and afterwards Taralets has its own icon and its own window, with no browser bars around it.

Sign in first. The installed app opens straight at your trips, so installing while you are signed in means it lands where you want it — and you may be asked to sign in once more the first time you open it from the home screen.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Tap Share — the box with an arrow, in the bar at the bottom.
  2. Scroll down. Add to Home Screen is near the bottom of the list, past Print — further than you expect.
  3. Tap Add, and Taralets appears with your other apps.

Safari and Chrome both offer this on an iPhone, so whichever you are reading this in now is fine.

On an Android phone

  1. Tap the menu — three dots, top right.
  2. Choose Add to Home screen. Chrome sometimes calls it Install app; it is the same thing.
  3. Confirm, and Taralets appears with your other apps.

If the menu says neither, the page may still be loading. Wait a moment and open it again.

On a computer

  1. Chrome or Edge: click the install control at the right-hand end of the address bar. If it is not there, look for Install in the browser menu.
  2. Safari on a Mac: there is no control in the address bar. Choose File, then Add to Dock.
  3. Either way Taralets gets its own window, with no address bar, and an icon where your other applications are.

Firefox does not install web apps at all. Taralets works perfectly well in a Firefox tab; it just stays a tab.

Why isn’t Taralets in the App Store?

Because the trip should open when you tap the link, not after a download.

Taralets is a web app. If someone invites you to a trip, the link takes you straight there — no app-store download, no “which icon was it again?” for the one traveller who isn’t very online. And you can also create a Taralets account and start your own trips without waiting for an invitation.

Once you’re in, add Taralets to your home screen and it opens like an app, with a full-screen window and its own icon.

And because Taralets lives on the web, it can be improved without waiting for a store release cycle. A trip that starts on Friday shouldn’t have to wait for an app update to catch up. Changes can be made, tested and released as the product grows.

There are a couple of trade-offs: Taralets doesn’t currently send push notifications, so you’ll see what’s new when you open it rather than on your lock screen. And you won’t find it by searching an app store — you get here by link, invitation, or by coming straight to Taralets.

What happens if I delete my account?
There is no delete button in the app yet — write to support@taralets.club and it will be done. The trips stay, because they belong to the group, and if you owned one, ownership passes to the most senior remaining member. Your profile is deleted; the membership the group’s expenses point at stays, so nobody else’s balances go wrong, but it no longer carries who you were. Delete any documents or memories you want erased before you ask — otherwise they become unreachable rather than removed. See Privacy for the detail.
Is my data sold or used for advertising?
No. Taralets does not sell your data or use it for advertising, and it carries no analytics or advertising tracking. It does rely on a small number of service providers to run the app, which the privacy policy names and explains.
